Meaning tends to assume the 'driver' of my artistic practice. I utilize meaning as a motivator, whether I am stitching metaphorical symbols together, or capturing a portrait in a thoughtful moment. Although meaning motivates my practice, what brings the piece together is the experience of the viewer. I wish for those who encounter my pieces to involve themselves within my art, allowing space for reflection. In my process, meaning is a catalyst for selecting the material for my pieces. Because of this, my practice spans many mediums: oil pastel, oil painting, acrylic, and a combination of the three. However, the way in which I portray the subject is consistent, imitating life with distinct brushwork and abstraction.I am pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Ottawa, with my current goal to explore themes such as the human experience and the importance of connection. At school, I challenge myself continuously. This results in a diverse selection of pieces, all documenting the evolution of my practice as I explore what fills my soul alongside creation. The refinement is my most enjoyable part about university thus far, and discovering who I am as an artist means I now keep my own pieces on my walls. I will be going into my third-year in September, and look forward to my fourth-year graduate show, which I am already planning out in my head.I want the viewer to know that it does not matter where my source of inspiration came from. They do not have to feel the feelings I experience when experiencing my art. I want the viewer to feel, and connect with themselves with my art, acting as a as a pause--a moment to give to themselves. Although inspiration may be the catalyst to my work, the completion is when the viewer gives themselves that moment of reflection, and personal connection.
